Memorial Day 2022, a National Day of Remembrance

Today, May 30, is a federal holiday in the United States, and the unofficial beginning of summer. Memorial Day dates back to the years after the Civil War. On May 5, 1868, General John Logan, commander of the Grand Army of the republic, proclaimed May 30 to be Decoration Day.
His proclamation read, “The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land."
On that first Decoration Day, thousands of people decorated the graves of 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers buried at Arlington Cemetery while future president General James Garfield delivered a speech. Congress passed the National Holiday Act of 1971, which set the last Monday in May as Memorial Day, now recognized as a federal holiday.
I-Connect007 wishes you all a happy Memorial Day.

It’s Only Common Sense: Nice Guys Really Can Finish First
04/29/2024 | Dan Beaulieu -- Column: It's Only Common SenseYou've heard the adage, “Nice guys finish last.” This hasn’t proven true for me. In fact, I’ve found it to be the exact opposite. On the other hand, I got stories about not-so-nice guys that have ended disastrously. There was the guy who fired his salesperson because he was in the grocery store buying a turkey on the day before Thanksgiving. This guy fired his salesperson on the spot, and then went on to brag about it. I wonder how that guy’s business is going today.
